Welcome to Jaeschke’s Hill River Clare Estate

Jaeschke’s Hill River Clare Estate is a single vineyard located in the famous Polish Hill River Valley, 6kms South-East of Clare.

We have been broad-acre farming in the Hill River Valley since 1963 and in May 2010 purchased the neighbouring vineyard, originally named Penfolds Clare Estate. Originally established in 1980, the vineyard is 180 hectares and planted with 15 varieties of grapes.

Set amidst 100 year old gum trees and rolling hills, the vineyard boasts fertile soils, a consistent climate and long ripening periods, ideal for grape growing.

The Clare Valley region’s cool climate and high elevation make it an ideal location for producing premium wines.

Hill River Valley has an average rainfall of 625mm predominately through winter with the summer period tending to be dry with cooler nights.

The soil is the valley ranges from a deep grey and red loamy soil to a red brown soil over broken clay and slate on higher ground.

Hill River Clare Estate is very much a family operation.  We have lived in the Hill River district for more than 50 years.  Our family, including our young grandchildren are all actively involved in the farm and vineyard operations.

Our successful integration of the vineyard into our farming operation has enabled us to share with our customers the outstanding award winning wines produced from the Polish Hill River Valley.

Bert Lloyd commissioned a painter, Charles Frydrych (1913 – 1990) to produce this painting in 1960. This is where the present Hill River Clare Estate Cellar Door, Operations and Administration area are today. The same roadway is used today as our entrance.
